Opera Otago Performs

'A Christmas Carol'

Directed by Christine Douglas, artistic direction by Judy Bellingham, choreography by Shona Bennett, conducted by Timothy Carpenter at Mayfair Theatre, Dunedin. Cast of over 80 includes James Adams as Scrooge, Ben Madden as Bob Cratchit, Lois Johnston, Ingrid Fomison-Nurse and Nathaniel Otley as the ghosts of Christchurch Future, Present and Past, and Alex Lee as Marley's Ghost.

Opera Factory Performs

'A Christmas Carol'

Directed by Sally Sloman, conducted by Claire Caldwell, at the Raye Freedman Centre, Epsom, Auckland. This was the fourth production of the opera by the company over a 16 year period beginning 1999.

Received a New Zealand History Research Trust Fund Award for 2016 from the Ministry of Culture and Heritage towards the completion of a book on the history of composition in New Zealand.

Invested as a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM), 'for services to music and music theatre', at Government House Wellington, 9 September 2015 10am session by Lieutenant General His Excellency Sir Jerry Mateperae. 'For services to music and music theatre'.  Invited to an investiture dinner at Government House 10 September hosted by Sir Jerry and Lady Janine Mateparae.

'Lilburn at 100' with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra

Lilburn at 100, narrating and conducting the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra in an illustrated address celebrating Douglas Lilburn's centenary year.  Feedback to CSO from a concertgoer: "We loved every bit of the dialogue and felt the event was an absolute stand out in terms of what the CSO has offered this season."

'Pro Patria' premieres at WWI Commemoration Concert

Pro Patria, a cycle of eight WWI poems composed for choir and brass band premiered at the WWI Commemoration Concert, Wigram Airforce Museum of New Zealand by the Christchurch City Choir (musical director Andrew Withington) and Addington Brass (bandmaster Dave Fui) conducted by Andrew Withington. Pro Patria was commisioned for this performance by the Christchurch City Choir with funding from the World War 100 Fund of the New Zealand Lottery Grants Board.

Philip conducts Resonance Ensemble at Christchurch Kidsfest

Philip conducted Resonance Ensemble in a programme for Christchurch Kidsfest. Premiered Perky the Pukeko a musical setting by Cathy Irons of Michelle Osmont's story, as well as Animals of the Orchestra, an arrangement for orchestra of selected movements from Saint-Saens Carnival of the Animals.

Conducted the combined Resonance Ensemble and Christchurch Youth Orchestra at The Isaac Theatre Royal in a gala concert for the Dame Malvina Major Foundation; included conducting soloist Bryony Gibson-Cornish in a performance of When Gravity Fails mini concerto.
